Philadelphia receives 2008 Heritage Award from Mississippi Heritage Trust

 

The Mississippi Heritage Trust has selected Philadelphia Mississippi for a 2008 Heritage Award.  This honor comes from the hard work and dedication in the field of historic preservation.  The Philadelphia Depot project was one of seventeen outstanding preservation project from across the state.

Philadelphia named to new Certified Cultural Corners Program

 

Gov. Haley Barbour today named five communities to the new Certified Cultural Corners program. The program awards grants to towns with a population of less than 20,000 to preserve and promote their cultural heritage significance, according to a news release from the governor's office.

The five pilot communities are Cleveland, Holly Springs, Ocean Springs, Philadelphia and Woodville.

The purpose of the program is to assist communities in identifying cultural heritage assets, developing a tourism infrastructure, improving the community’s aesthetics, and the marketing of these assets for cultural and heritage tourism.

Philadelphia Based Company Receives Toyota Contract

 

Yates Construction, based in Philadelphia, Neshoba County, has formed a joint venture with Detroit, Michigan-based Walbridge Aldinger Company for construction of the Toyota plant’s assembly and body weld facilities. Work on the plant in Blue Springs will begin in February.

Carthage approved to join Mississippi Main Street

 

 

The Mississippi Main Street Association Board of Directors approved the City of Carthage to become a Small Towns Main Street Member on October 11, 2007.  Carthage is one of four communities approved including Holly Springs, Laurel, and Hancock County.

 

The Mississippi Main Street program is based in historic preservation focused on developing Mississippi’s downtowns through a four-point approach: organization, promotions, design, and economic restructuring.  The Mississippi Main Street Association leads the nation in program success, and it is a designated partner of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Mississippi Development Authority

Zea becomes President of Kosciusko-Attala Development Corporation

 

 

Native Kentuckian Steve Zea is the newly appointed president and CEO of the Kosciusko Attala Development Corporation.  Zea comes to the area with 20-plus years in working with economic development, Main Street organization, tourism development and retirement opportunities.

As of Oct. 1, the Kosciusko-Attala Chamber of Commerce, Kosciusko Main Street and Attala Development Corporation along with several other organizational groups came under the Kosciusko Attala Development Corporation or KADC.

The KADC structure has Zea in charge of a vice president of community development and a vice president of economic development along with an office manager.

A 13-member board comprised of Kosciusko Mayor Jimmy Cockroft, Attala County Board of Supervisors Kary Ellington and other local business leaders will meet regularly.

Zea and his wife, Diane, come to Kosciusko by way of Murray, Kentucky, and they have three children and two grandchildren.
