Students win trip to Washington, D.C.

Two area high school juniors were recently selected to represent Central Electric Power Association at a statewide leadership workshop designed to prepare them for leadership roles in their community and schools.

Mary Margaret Chaney of Pisgah High School and Samantha Moore of Carthage High School were selected through an interview process by an independent panel of judges not affiliated with Central Electric Power Association. Applications and information posters for the program were posted in all Central Electric Power Association offices, Today in Mississippi and were mailed to all area schools.

Chaney and Moore were interviewed along with four others who were selected from applications and essays submitted from students across the service area. These six then interviewed for the top two spots. The others interviewed were Samantha Coleman of Leake Academy, Adam Grace of Lake High School, Colby Little of Newton County High School and Anna Alexander of Little Rock.

During the leadership workshop, students will tour the state Capitol, meet with legislators and visit the legislative galleries where they will watch debate on legislation. They will learn about electric cooperatives, hear dynamic speakers and take part in several group exercises aimed at building cooperation, trust and leadership skills. The two winners will also continue on to the Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., next June.

Central Electric congratulates our participants in the program for their achievement and recognizes them.
